There are many misconceptions with in the fitness industry. One major misconception is the belief in spot reduction. Spot reduction is the belief that you can work a particular part of your body and by working on that specific part reduce the fat mass from that area. Unfortunately this is not the case. For example, many people wishing to gain a six-pack will do sit-ups or abdominal exercises. This will definately increase the underlying muscle, however it is not going to significantly reduce your stomach fat. High intensity exercises will help you reduce fat mass but the general truth is that fat will be reduced from areas such as your arms and legs before it is reduced from your mid-section regardless of the exercises you are preforming.
